**Bhubaneswar:** To have a bird’s eye view of the Kalinga Stadium for proper security arrangements during the upcoming Hockey Men’s World Cup, the Commissionerate Police is mooting to deploy a drone over the stadium, informed Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty today.
“During discussions over traffic and security arrangments during the World Cup, we have considered to take a high-definition drone through which we can get direct feed of the crowd or traffic near the stadium by sitting at the control room,” said Mohanty.
Though CCTV surveillance system has been installed at the stadium, the drone will give a bird’s eye view of entire stadium, the stands and the traffic on the road outside the stadium, for better traffic and crowd control, he added.
The drone may be deployed one hour prior to start of the tournament or during the match or when the crowd is leaving the stadium after the match. The decision will be taken based on the requirement during the match, said Mohanty.
He further informed that such drone is used by security forces and the operations branch of Odisha Police is also procuring one of them.
Earlier on September 14, DGP RP Sharma had informed that Odisha Police has planned to start drone surveillance in the cut-off areas of Malkangiri district and Bhubaneswar and for this purpose it is going to procure two drones of Rs 15 lakh each.
