Bhubaneswar: It has come to fore that the constable who was arrested yesterday on charges of selling drugs has, in fact, three other cases filed against him. He was forwarded to court on Thursday.
Accused constable Janaki Bhallabh Bharimal, posted at Nayapalli Police Station was nabbed for selling brown sugar, said Police report.
A case of abduction and murder was lodged against him in 2005 at Capital Police Station. However, he was released as all witnesses turned hostile during the court hearing. From 2008-2018, he was posted in Khurda Police district. A case of physical assault was lodged against Janaki in 2011 at Khandagiri Police Station and a case of motorcycle theft in 2018 at Khurda Police Station. Hearing for both the cases is underway. This was informed by Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner Dr Sudhansu Sarangi while addressing media persons.
Dr Sarangi said, “The recent case of drug peddling has brought to notice of this serial offender constable. We have been conducting regular raids to curb underground drug business. An independent Drug Task Force headed by ACP Sanjay Singh is working hard at it. And action will be taken against any accused as the law dictates.”
“The investigation officer‘s report is awaited. Then necessary disciplinary action will be taken,” said twin city Police Commissioner.
