Drunken Groom Rejected By Bride On Mandap In Odisha, Lands Up In Jail

**Rourkela:** A decked up bride in Rourkela simply refused to get married to the groom as he and his friends created ruckus in an inebriated state at the wedding venue on Sunday evening. Moreover, the bride’s relatives even lodged a complaint in the Tangarpali police station after which the police detained the drunken groom and his brother.

This incident occurred in the Labour Colony of Fertilizer Township at the Saranagari Jagannath Temple. The daughter of Arsul Panda was to get married to Shankar Panda, a native of Champagarh Basti under Bandhamunda PS.

“Shankar and his friends had come to the wedding venue in an inebriated state and the groom had even left the mandap in middle to consume some more alcohol. Moreover, they started ruckus at the wedding venue and even started thrashing my brothers and father. I would never want to marry such a person. I want him in jail and want all the expenses of the wedding to be compensated,” said the bride to the media persons.

There was heated argument between the bride’s family members and the groom’s side after which the police intervened.

“We are presently interrogating both the groom and his brother and will take action according to law,” informed Manoranjan Pradhan, IIC, Tangarpali PS.

The friends and relatives of the bride gheraoed the Tangarpali police station demanding compensation for the loss.

“The father of the bride is a poor guy and has spent a huge amount in the wedding. As the marriage did not solemnise, the groom should compensate the whole amount and also take care of her maintenance expenses till she gets married,” cried out Ritanjali Lenka, a neighbour of the bride.

According to Shankar Panda, the groom, “It is an unfortunate incident. My friends hoodwinked me and served alcohol mixed with green coconut water. I was unable to trace it and got out of senses. Moreover, they even created commotion regarding the food at the wedding venue. Presently, I am much worried about the bride’s family.

The groom and his brother have been court forwarded today by the police.
