Balasore: In a shocking incident, a drunken man allegedly beat his wife to death late Wednesday night at Gahiraband village in Jaleswar block in Odisha’s Balasore district.
According to reports, Durga Murmu of Gahiraband village returned home in an inebriated state on Wednesday night and had an altercation with his wife Manjulata Murmu. Their dispute took an ugly turn and Durga started thrashing his wife brutally.
Neighbours came to rescue Manjulata from Durga’s assault, but she had already breathed her last. The locals nabbed Durga as he tried to flee the spot after the crime and handed him over to Raibania police.
Police have sent Manjulata’s body for post-mortem and arrested Durga. An investigation is on into the case.
