Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, two persons, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were killed in a road mishap in Krisipulu Rice Mill under Panikoili police limits in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Sunday.
The deceased DSP has been identified as Balaram Nayak, while the other deceased was his relative Krusha Chandra Nayak – a Krushi Sathi from Kantiapada gram panchayat.
Nayak was posted as the DSP (Crime) in Jajpur district and recently transferred to Jagatsighpur district as Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in a few days.
According to reports, the accident took place when Nayak and his relative were travelling from his native place at Ghatagaon in Keonjhar district in a car to Jajpur this afternoon. He was going to attend a farewell ceremony organised at the office of Jajpur Superintendent of Police (SP) in the evening.
As Balaram’s car approached Chandpur Square on National Highway-16 under Panikoili police limits in Jajpur a speeding truck hit the vehicle and fled the spot.
Nayak and Krushna Chandra sustained critical injuries and they were rescued by the locals and rushed to Maharaj Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital. However, doctors at the hospital declared both ‘brought dead’ on arrival.
On being informed, Jajpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Yashpratap Shrimal rushed to the hospital and enquired about the incident. He also made arrangements to send the bodies for autopsy.
