Berhampur: A duplicate sauce or ketchup manufacturing unit was busted by the Badabazar police on Tuesday. According to the police, the unit was operating at Somnath Nagar area where tomato, soya and chilli sauce of substandard quality was manufactured.
The police carried out a special drive against adulterated food in the city and detected the unit which prepared sauce under the brand name – ‘Family’, for commercial purposes, the police added. The owner of the manufacturing unit-cum-godown, Sankar Swain has been booked under Section 420 of the IPC and several Sections of the Food Safety and Standards Act.
During the raid, a gas stove, wet mixer and grinder, six large plastic drums containing adulterated and fully prepared tomato sauce, packed bottles of soya sauce, chilli sauce and vinegar bottles were seized. Besides, raw materials – 80 kg potato, 400 kg arrowroot powder, packaging machine, huge quantity of empty plastic bottles, and cartons were recovered, the police added.
