Bhubaneswar: The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar are now preparing for the grand idol immersion, known as ‘Bhasani Utsav’ locally after the 10-day Durga Puja celebrations concluded on Sunday. Today, residents will bid tearful adieu to Goddess Durga’s idols.
In Cuttack, the processions for immersing the idols of Goddess Durga and Hara Parbati are in full swing. The Maa Durga idol immersion procession in Bhubaneswar is set for 3:00 pm today. Special temporary ponds have been arranged in both cities to facilitate this ceremonial farewell to Goddess Durga.
In Cuttack, over 120 idols will be immersed at Devigada, with lorries carrying the idols from various puja pandals to the Kathajodi River, accompanied by lively music and dance.
To accommodate the low water levels, three makeshift ponds have been created along the river bank, and pump sets are on standby to fill them, if necessary.
Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has set up five large temporary ponds for a smooth immersion process. Two ponds are located near the Kuakhai River, two near the Daya River, and one close to the Sai Temple in Hanspal.
Additionally, strict security measures have been implemented by the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police, along with a traffic advisory to prevent congestion. As the idols in Cuttack make their way to the Ranihat area, the air is filled with the sounds of dhol, conch shells, and joyous celebrations as the community prepares for this sacred immersion.
