Dusmanta Das Suicide Case: Two ‘Journalists’ Appear Before Cuttack Police

Cuttack: Two web channel ‘journalists’ appeared before police in Cuttack on Wednesday in connection with the suicide bid of 30-year-old Dusmanta Das at Lower PMG Square in Bhubaneswar and his subsequent death at SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack.

Mangalabag Police had yesterday summoned the two journalists Asit Kumar Rout and Damodar Sethi. They reportedly had links with Dusmanta. Their statements will be recorded in connection with the suicide bid and subsequent death of Dusmanta.

While Dusmanta was not able to walk properly after his accident, it is still a mystery who had brought him to Bhubaneswar and who had provided him the pesticide to commit suicide.

An FIR in this regard had been filed by Dusmanta’s mother at Kujang Police Station in Jagatsinghpur. The FIR had been forwarded to Cuttack as the point of jurisdiction. Police have initiated a probe to ascertain the involvement of others.

Dusmanta had attempted suicide near Odisha Assembly by consuming pesticide and slitting his wrist on September 8. He died on the same day while undergoing treatment at SCB MCH.

He had alleged denial of treatment under Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BKKY). Dusmanta had appealed to the State Government to permit mercy killing citing poverty and negligence in treatment.
