Bhubaneswar: Amid rising demand for free electricity up to 300 units, Deputy Chief Minister cum Energy Minister, K V Singh Deo, clarified on Tuesday that there has been no announcement of giving free electricity up to 300 units.
Speaking in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Singh Deo explained that the only initiative involving 300 units of electricity is part of the central government’s ‘PM Suryaghar Muft Bijlee Yojana’.
He informed that the scheme offers a subsidy of ₹78,000 for installing a 3 KW rooftop solar plant, which can generate more than 300 units per month. Consumers can significantly lower their electricity bills by using this self-generated solar power.
Singh Deo also addressed issues in Bargarh district, where misinformation has led to illegal removal of electricity meters. He warned that such actions are dangerous and should only be performed by qualified technicians. The Deputy CM urged the public not to engage in these unsafe practices and to disregard false information.
He encouraged consumers to take advantage of the ‘PM Suryaghar Muft Bijlee Yojana’ and benefit from the solar power initiative.
