Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) has set a new milestone in freight operations by achieving its highest-ever loading and unloading performance, both for the month of October and for the cumulative period up to October 2025 (From April-October) in any given year.
During October 2025, ECoR loaded 23.58 million tonnes (MT) of freight — the highest ever for the month of October in any year, surpassing the previous best of 20.90 MT achieved in October 2024, reflecting a growth of 13%. This is also the first time that October loading has crossed the 23 million tonne mark.
From April to October 2025, ECoR achieved a cumulative loading of 161.18 million tonnes, exceeding the previous best of 144.47 MT during the corresponding period of last year — an increase of 16.71 million tonnes, registering a growth of 11.6%. The Zone also achieved its highest-ever unloading performance, handling 144.02 million tonnes, compared to 133.81 million tonnes last year — a growth of 8%.
Freight earnings have shown a corresponding rise, reaching Rs 16,350.21 crore during April–October 2025, against Rs 14,714.31 crore during the same period last year, registering an impressive growth of 11%.
This consistent growth is attributed to efficient planning, improved operational management, and proactive coordination with freight customers across sectors like coal, iron ore, Finished Steel, and fertilizers. This outstanding performance stands as a testament to the dedication and teamwork of East Coast Railway’s workforce and its unwavering commitment to strengthening the nation’s supply chain and economic progress.
