Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) continues its robust campaign against the hazardous and illegal practice of filming social media reels or stunt videos on railway tracks, which endanger lives and disrupt rail operations.
On July 5, 2025, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Balangir received a video clip from a reliable source showing a young male lying on concrete sleepers of the railway track as a train passed by. The RPF team promptly responded by visiting Purnapani Station and coordinating with the local Baunsuni Police.
A joint investigation involving the RPF, police, and local villagers identified two minors from a nearby village under Baunsuni Police jurisdiction. The inquiry revealed that on June 29, 2025, a 12-year-old boy performed life-threatening stunts on the tracks while his 15-year-old friend recorded the footage.
Following procedural formalities, the minors and their guardians were brought to the RPF Post in Balangir for legal action. Case No. C3C/439 has been registered against the boys under Sections 153, 145(b), and 147 of the Railways Act, 1989. Further legal proceedings will be conducted under the Juvenile Justice Act with parental supervision.
East Coast Railway emphasizes that trespassing on railway tracks for entertainment is illegal and can have fatal consequences. It urges the public, particularly parents and educators, to educate children about the severe risks involved.
Regular safety awareness campaigns continue across stations, schools, villages along the railway line, and through digital and print media.
Remember: Your life is precious. Say no to stunts on tracks. Stay safe, stay away from railway lines.
