Bhubaneswar: A team from the Election Commission of India (ECI) headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar arrived at Bhubaneswar on Thursday night to review poll preparedness ahead of General and State Assembly elections 2024.
With the General and Assembly elections fast approaching, CEC of India Rajiv Kumar, election commissioner Arun Goel along with senior officers of the ECI have reached the state capital on a three-day visit.
During its stay, the ECI team has planned to have discussions with Chief Secretary PK Jena, Director General of Police (in-charge) Arun Sarangi, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nikunja Bihari Dhal, Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Home department Additional Chief Secretary Deoranjan Kumar Singh, all district Collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs) in Odisha.
Besides, the team will take stock of the status of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and booth-level preparedness for the simultaneous polls. The ECI team will also hold discussions with the representatives of different political parties.
It is learnt that the ECI has planned to install cameras at around 60 per cent booths in Odisha as part of measures to maintain law and order during elections. Besides, it has decided to take steps for surveillance through drones in densely populated areas of the state.
