Economic Blockade

Bhubaneswar: The vehicular traffic near Duhuria square in Kendrapara district came to a standstill due to economic blockade on the State highway and National Highway by the United Action Committee demanding a medical college in the district.

The committee called for a dawn-to-dusk protest on the highways. Hundreds of industrial vehicles and public transport vehicles stood on both sides of the road as the protesters staged the road blockade.

The agitators blocked the highway at Duhuria on the Cuttack-Chandbali road and Daitari-Paradip National Highway. Hundreds of protesters sat on the road and raised slogans. Traffic has been disrupted due to the strike.

The committee demanded a medical college and hospital in Kendrapara district to provide better healthcare services.

The committee called for the economic blockade as the government did not pay heed to their demand. The joint action committee has also been peacefully protesting in front of the Collectorate since September 5.
