Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal on Tuesday felicitated four frontline railway employees for their exceptional alertness, dedication and prompt action that ensured safe and uninterrupted train operations across the zone.
The employees honoured were Kolli Jagan Mohana Rao, Track Maintainer-IV, Parvatipuram; Kinjarapu Ramana Murthy, Technician-I/C&W, Vizianagaram; Mohammad Japher, Loco Pilot (Goods), Titlagarh; and Anand Prakash Pathak, Senior Goods Train Manager, Sambalpur.
Their timely interventions led to the early detection of critical defects, prevention of potential mishaps and reinforcement of Indian Railways’ high safety standards.
On December 15, 2025, Kolli Jagan Mohana Rao, while on duty as Gateman at LC Gate No. RV-278, noticed heavy sparking and smoke emanating from the wheels of Train No. 18448 during late night hours. He immediately displayed the danger signal and alerted concerned railway staff. Subsequent inspection revealed a locked axle in the locomotive, averting a possible accident.
Similarly, during a rolling-in examination on December 5, 2025, at Vizianagaram, Kinjarapu Ramana Murthy detected abnormal sounds from the axle box of a loaded wagon of a goods train. His prompt reporting led to the identification of a roller bearing defect with abnormally high temperature, enabling timely preventive measures.
On December 18, 2025, Loco Pilot Mohammad Japher, while operating a goods train, observed smoke coming from the axle box of a wagon of another passing train. He immediately informed the Station Master, allowing quick control of the affected train and prevention of a serious rolling stock failure.
In another incident on December 22, 2025, at Sambalpur, Senior Goods Train Manager Anand Prakash Pathak noticed a broken centre pivot pin in the Brake Van of a goods train during continuity testing. His swift action led to inspection by C&W staff and the safe detachment of the defective Brake Van before departure.
While felicitating the employees, the General Manager подчеркed that frontline staff—including Track, Signal and OHE Maintainers, Loco Pilots, Technicians, Goods Train Managers and Station Managers—form the backbone of railway operations, and their constant vigilance is crucial for ensuring safety and efficiency.
East Coast Railway reiterated its commitment to fostering a strong safety culture and recognising exemplary service rendered by employees at the grassroots level.
