ECoR Initiates Fencing Work To Prevent Accidents, Ensure Safer Train Operations

Bhubaneswar: In a major step to enhance railway safety and increase train speeds, East Coast Railway has initiated extensive fencing work on various railway sections of its jurisdiction. Under this ambitious safety initiative, ECoR has sanctioned fencing work covering a total of 3,133 track kms in its jurisdiction. The estimated project cost is over Rs 1,061 crore.

The work is being carried out in three divisions – Khordha Road, Sambalpur, and Waltair. In Khordha Road Division, fencing work is underway for 1,255 kms at a cost of Rs 458 crore on Bhadrak-Palasa, Khordha Road-Puri, and Nergundi-Kerjang sections, and 287 kms at a cost of over Rs 98 crore on Jakhpura-Jaroli section, the detailed cost of which is under sanction.

Similarly, in Sambalpur Division, 1,278 km of security fencing work is underway at a cost of over Rs 404 crore on Jharsuguda Road-Sambalpur City-Kerejong, Balangir-Theruvali, and Pansana-Balangir sections, and 316.5 km of Lakholi-Titlagarh section at a detailed estimate of Rs 93.43 crore is under sanction.

In Waltair Division, 600 km of security fencing work is underway at a cost of over Rs 199.27 crore on Palasa-Visakhapatnam Dubhwada and Vizianagaram-Singapore Road sections.

The aim of these works is to ensure safe train operation, prevent unauthorised entry, and restrict the movement of cattle and wild animals near the railway tracks. By implementing these initiatives, ECoR is strengthening its commitment to provide a safe and efficient railway network.
