Bhubaneswar: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched simultaneous raids on the properties linked to Khirod Mallik, brother of Opposition Chief Whip and former Odisha minister Pramila Mallik in New Delhi and three places in Sambalpur on Wednesday morning.

According to reports, the ED raids come in the wake of allegations of financial fraud to the tune of Rs 231 crore.

Khirod Mallik, the founder of the NG) Bharat Integrated Social Welfare Agency (BISWA), is accused of availing loans from different national and private banks and using the money for funding elections.

The raid is underway at Khirod Mallik’s residential building, office of the NGO and another building belonging to him in Sambalpur. In Delhi, the raid is on at the BISWA headquarters.

Earlier, a case was registered with the Enforcement Directorate against BISWA for allegedly misusing crores of rupees taken as loan from banks and non-repayment of loans.

During BJD’s rule, BISWA had availed the tender of supplying ‘pulses’ to all government schools for mid-day meal (MDM). He was also awarded many other government projects when his sister Pramila Malik was in power.
