Eight Bhubaneswar Restaurants Licensed To Employ Bar Dancers

Bhubaneswar: The State Government has licensed eight restaurants in Bhubaneswar to function as dance bars and employ women for dance and song performance, stated Excise Minister Niranjan Pujari in the Odisha Assembly on Monday.

In a written reply to a question of BJP MLA Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia, Pujari said the permission to operate dance bars was given as per the instruction of Orissa High Court and laid guidelines under section 44 of Odisha Excise Rules, 2017.

The Minister also released the name of the restaurants and the number of bar dancers they are allowed to employ, as mentioned below.

As per rules, the dance bars can remain open till 12 AM. Reports against any dance bar staying open beyond the prescribed time has not been received to date, said Pujari.

He further added that prior to granting permission to seven more on shops to employ bar dancers as per the instruction of the High Court, Khordha ExciseSuperintenden has been instructed to conduct an investigation and submit a report through the Collector.

The Minister also made it clear that the State Government is not earning any extra revenue from these dance bars.
