Bhubaneswar: Puintala police on Friday arrested eight drivers for their alleged involvement in an attack on a truck driver during the Quit Steering Wheel agitation, called by the Odisha Driver Mahasangh, in Balangir district.
The incident occurred on Thursday when Manoj Bagarti (27), a resident of Bhaler village under Puintala police limits in Balangir district, was driving a truck from Sonepur district’s Saradhapali Ethanol Plant towards Balangir.
As Bagarti reached the Bhainsapali Toll Gate, he was allegedly attacked by striking drivers. As a result, he suffered severe injuries.
Puintala police registered a case in this connection and arrested the accused involved in the attack.
“We have arrested eight drivers involved in the attack, and further investigation is underway,” said Anita Pradhan, Inspector-in-Charge of Puintala police station.
