Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha and Minister of Mission Shakti, Pravati Parida, initiated the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign in the State by planting a sapling in Mission Shakti Bhawan on Sunday.

The Dy-CM planted a ‘Baula’ sampling also known as Spanish Cherry, inside Mission Shakti Bhawan’s premises.

Followed by plantation, Dy-CM Parida chaired a meeting in the presence of Vineet Bhardwaj, State Mission Director cum CEO, Odisha Livelihoods Mission (OLM), Senior Government officials, and other staff of the department.

The meeting was also attended by Mission Shakti district and block federation leaders with community support staff, who joined in support of this environmental initiative.

During the meeting, the Dy-CM emphasised the importance of honouring mothers and fostering a greener Odisha by encouraging every citizen to plant a tree in the name of their mothers.

The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted the need for community involvement in environmental sustainability and urged Mission Shakti SHGs leaders and officials to take up this campaign across the State, contributing towards this noble cause.

The Mission Shakti SHGs and leaders have pledged to plant 2.5 crore trees across the State, fostering environmental sustainability and women empowerment in Odisha.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign by planting a Peepal tree at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi, on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, 2024.
