Patnagarh: In a tragic incident, an elderly couple was killed in an elephant attack in Chabiripali village under Bhanpur panchayat in the Patnagarh-Harishankar forest range area in Odisha’s Bolangir district on late Sunday night. The deceased have been identified as Nilambar Bariha (54) and his wife Yashovanti Bariha (50).
According to reports, Nilambar and Yashovanti had retired for the night in their room after dinner on Sunday. In the dead of the night, an elephant that had entered the village in search of food broke open their house and attacked the couple, killing both on the spot.
On being informed, Forest department personnel and police reached the village and sent the body for post-mortem. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, gloom descended on the village as the news of the tragic incident spread.
