Bhubaneswar: An elderly couple was killed in a road mishap on Wednesday on national highway no. 49 near Bomparda village under Barkote police limits in Deogarh district.
According to reports, the couple who was travelling on a scooter was hit from behind by an SUV.
The deceased have been identified as Hrudananda Behera (70) and his wife Ratani Behera (65).
Locals rushed Hrudananda and Ratani to the Govt Hospital at Barkote. However, they were declared dead by the doctors at the hospital.
Barkote police have seized the bodies of the deceased and have launched an investigation into the incident. Police have detained the driver of the accident-causing SUV.
