Dhenkanal: The bodies of an elderly couple were recovered from a canal at Gundirapada under Dhenkanal Sadar police station limits Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Wednesday and Thursday.
The deceased couple has been identified as a retired havaldar Dushashan Sahu (74) and his wife Padmavati (72) of Panchabati village.
According to Dhenkanal Sadar SDPO Bibhuti Bhushan Mahapatra, Dushashan and Padmavati had been missing since Wednesday evening. Despite efforts to trace the whereabouts of the couple, family members failed to trace them till Wednesday afternoon, when Dushashan’s body was spotted floating in the canal. His body was recovered and sent for autopsy.
On Thursday morning, local residents found the body of Padmavati this morning. The police have sent Padmavati’s body for post-mortem and registered cases of unnatural deaths, the SDPO said.
While the exact reason behind the couple’s death is yet to be ascertained, police have launched an investigation into the matter.
