Boudh: In a tragic incident, a 60-year-old disabled woman was burnt alive after a fire broke out in her house at Tikirapada village under Baunsuni Police Station limits in Boudh district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Suryakanti Sahu, who had been bedridden for several years due to her disability, sources said.
According to preliminary information, the fire erupted suddenly while Sahu was asleep inside her house. The flames spread rapidly, leaving her with no chance to escape. Hearing her cries, locals rushed to the spot and alerted the Baunsuni Fire Station.
Fire services personnel reached the scene promptly and managed to bring the blaze under control. However, by the time the fire was doused, the woman had already succumbed to burn injuries.
Police from Baunsuni station arrived at the spot, recovered the body, and initiated an investigation into the incident.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, with officials suspecting a possible short circuit or other accidental reasons.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village, with residents expressing shock and grief over the unfortunate death.
