Angul: An elderly man was killed in a road accident on Tuesday early morning at Karada Gadiya Street under Sadar Police limits in Angul district. The deceased was identified as Kashinath Tung (65), a resident of Kardagadia village in the district.
According to reports, every day Kashinath went out on his bicycle to pick flowers for his morning prayers. While he was returning home after picking flowers this morning an unknown speeding vehicle coming from the front overran him. Consequently, Kashinath died on the spot.
Tension prevailed in the area after the news of Kashinath spread and an irate mob blocked the National Highway 55 demanding the arrest of the killer driver and compensation to the victim’s kin. As a result, a large number of vehicles were stuck on both sides of the road.
On being informed, cops from Sadar police station reached the spot and appeased the protesters. The roadblock was withdrawn after the authorities promised that Kashinath’s kin would be paid compensation.
