Bhubaneswar: An elderly man died after an unknown truck hit him from behind near Gadiajora village under Dharmagarh police limits in Kalahandi district on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Muchu Nayak (50).
Muchu Naik was sitting on the road and brushing his teeth. A speeding truck ran over him killing him on the spot.
Local people, meanwhile, gathered at the spot and created ruckus. They staged a road blockade by placing the body on the road. They demanded adequate compensation for the family of the deceased and stringent action against the truck driver.
Due to long-hour road blockade, the traffic on Dharamgarh-Jeypore road was completely disrupted. Many vehicles were stuck on the road for a long time. After getting information, Dharmagarh police reached the spot and pacified the mob. The protesters withdrew the agitation after police assured them of action against the erring the driver and
Later, the police recovered the body and sent it for autopsy. The driver fled the spot soon after accident.
Police have started an investigation to nab the driver.
