Bhubaneswar: An elderly man, Bidyadhar Dehuri (62), was trampled to death by an elephant in Koriapal village, Kamakhyanagar East Range, Dhenkanal district.
Dehuri, a worshipper in the village, was on his way to take a bath at a nearby waterbody when he encountered a small elephant. The elephant attacked him with its trunk, injuring his right thigh with its tusk and crushing him.
Forest Department personnel rushed Dehuri to the Kamakhyanagar subdivisional hospital, where he was declared dead. The Forest Department has promised financial assistance to the family after an inquiry, according to forester Birendra Dehury.
