Bhubaneswar: Police recovered the body of an elderly woman from Dhanei dam near Raandi village under Polsara police limits in Ganjam district on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Anuchhaya Dakua of Jokabandha village.
Her body was found floating in the dam by locals who informed police.
Upon being informed, police and firefighting teams recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.
According to sources, Anuchhaya had come out of her house to visit her daughter. As Anuchhaya failed to reach her daughter’s home till evening, Anuchhaya’s family members searched for her after they came to know about it.
It is suspected that she might have slipped while drinking water in the dam. Police, meanwhile, began an investigation to ascertain the reason behind Anuchhaya’s death.’
