**Kendrapara:** Cash seizures from cars have become a daily routine ahead of polls as another Rs 9 lakh cash was seized from a car on Pattamundai bypass road here today afternoon by Election Commission’s flying squad.
Reportedly, a businessman named Basant Das was on his way to Cuttack with the cash in his car. As per guidelines, flying squad officials stopped the car (OD-02Z-7966) to conduct routine inspection and seized Rs 9 lakh cash. The accused was immediately held for further interrogation into the case.
Late last night, Rs 8.96 lakh was seized from the car of a contractor in Pipili’s Delang area near Radhua market.
The incident occurred when one Bibhuti Swain was traveling in his Scorpio car (OD-02 AB-4777) and the vehicle was intercepted and thoroughly checked by cops and the flying squad.
When questioned, Bibhuti was not able to provide a satisfactory answer and thus the cash was seized under 102 CrPC act. Cops are further probing into the matter.
In yet another incident, Rs 7.76 lakh unaccounted cash were seized from a Bolero (OD 26 9515) at Karangmal in Nuapada district. Congress flags and pamphlets have also been recovered from the vehicle.
Five persons including driver have been detained by the flying squad team. They have been identified as Surendra Nial of Ankapur, Jhampeswar Salma of Jayabahal, Janmejaya Singhdeo of Kampur, Ashish Ranjan Panda of Tarapur, Saroj Barat (Driver) of Tarapur, under Boden police station limits.
