Keonjhar: A one and half-year-old male elephant calf died while undergoing treatment at the Chamakpur area under Champua range of Keonjhar district, on Friday.
As per reports, the calf was spotted walking slowly and limping on March 7, prompting the forest department to investigate using drones. The department found that the calf was with its mother and had swollen hind legs. As the condition worsened, the calf was unable to stand on March 10.

The calf was treated by Bhubaneswar-based wildlife veterinarians, who suspected septicemia due to an infection. Despite treatment efforts, the calf succumbed to its injuries and died.
According to the Keonjhar District Forest Office (DFO) Dhanraj HD, the calf was being treated for various injuries and infections.
