Elephant Calf Found Dead In Dhenkanal; Electrocution Suspected

Dhenkanal: A one-year-old elephant calf was found dead near Mahadia village under Sadar Forest Range in Dhenkanal district, with electrocution suspected as the cause of death.

Reports suggest the calf was part of a herd that ventured out of the Mathargadi forest to feed on paddy crops. It allegedly came into contact with a solar fence erected by farmers to protect their produce, resulting in its death.

The fence might have been connected to a high-voltage power source, leading to the calf’s demise.

However, Forest officials say the post-mortem report will reveal the exact cause of death.
