Bhubaneswar: An elephant calf was rescued from the Krushnapur reserve forest under the Telkoi Range in Keonjhar district, on Tuesday.
As per reports, the calf had strayed from its herd on Monday evening. Despite efforts by the forest department to reunite the calf with its herd, it was eventually rescued and taken to the Bandhanjhari forest beat house.
A team from the Telkoi Wildlife Veterinary Unit is providing treatment to the calf, which is reportedly unwell and vomiting.
According to forest officials, the herd consists of 21 elephants. The rescued calf is currently under observation and care.
