Baripada: A herd of elephants has been creating havoc in Baripada town of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district since Wednesday night. They are seen roaming the streets and on Thursday one of them entered the MKC High School in Baripada town creating panic among the students. On being informed, Forest Department staff and police personnel arrived at the spot, and efforts were on to drive the pachyderms back to the forest.
Hostel students of MKC High School were panic-stricken after the elephant entered the school campus. Given the threat from the elephant, the Forest Department had requested everyone in the area to remain indoors.
Around noon on Thursday, Baripada DFO Santosh Kumar Joshi informed that they had successfully pushed the elephant back to Similipal Forest near Sansole safely. Currently, four teams of the Forest Department are monitoring the movement of the elephant.
