Jharsuguda: A young man was trampled to death by an elephant at Bhalupatra village under Kirmira block in Jharsuguda district, on Friday.
The victim, identified as Fakir Kisan (35), was part of a group trying to chase away the elephant that had strayed into the village and was damaging crops.
According to sources, a group of villagers and Forest department officials were trying to shoo away the rogue elephant when the incident occurred. The elephant suddenly turned back and attacked the group, causing Fakir to fall to the ground. Before he could get up, the elephant trampled him, resulting in fatal injuries.
Fakir was rushed to the Kirmira Hospital, where he was declared dead by the doctors.
This incident has raised concerns about the increasing human-wildlife conflict in the region, with many villages in Kirmira block reporting crop damage and property loss due to elephant menace.
