Angul: An old woman died after being attacked by an elephant here on Saturday morning. The incident was reported from Maranda village under Bantala police limits.
According to reports, the woman, identified as Jhataka Behera had gone to her backyard during the wee hours of the day.
All of a sudden, an elephant moving around in the mango orchard nearby attacked Behera and trampled her. She died on the spot.
Following the incident, forest department personnel arrived at the spot to take stock of the situation.
There has been a rise in number of elephant attacks in the districts over the last few months. Since January 2023, till date, as many as 15 persons have been killed in elephant attacks in Angul, reports stated.
