Sambalpur: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict, an elderly woman was trampled to death by a pachyderm in the Jamuguri area of Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Thursday evening.

According to reports, Pari Lugun (55) of Jamuguri under Godloisingh Panchayat of Jujomura block in the district had gone to a nearby jungle to collect dry leaves for fire. Suddenly, she saw an elephant and tried to run away from the scene. However, she could not go too far and the elephant trampled her to death.

Later, locals spotted Pari’s body and informed the Forest Department and police. While the police seized the body and sent it for post-mortem, people in the Jamuguri area panicked.

It is worth noting that two people were attacked and killed by elephants in the Jamaguri area last month. This month, five people have already lost their lives due to elephant attacks.
