Dhenkanal: A farmer was trampled to death by a pachyderm while protecting his agricultural field from a rampaging elephant in Kot village under Kantol panchayat in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Nidhia Dehuri, a native of Kot village.
According to reports, an elephant entered Kot village last night and destroyed standing crops of several farmers in the area. Angry villagers informed the Forest department about the incident and a team from the Forest department and the villagers tried to chase the elephant away. Nidhia tripped and fell on his field while chasing the elephant and was trampled to death by the beast.
