Bhubaneswar: A 56-year-old man was killed on the spot by an elephant on Wednesday near Basala under Bantala forest range in Angul district. The man, Bhabagrahi Jena, from the village was out to attend the nature’s call when the tragedy took place.
Locals alleged that similar incidents have happened in the past and staged a blockade on Bantala-Mahidharpur road demanding compensation to the next of kin of the deceased. Vehicular movement was disrupted due to the protest.
Angul Forest officials and local police placated the protesters. The blockade was withdrawn after forest officials assured them of due compensation as per government provisions.
