Cuttack: An elephant with a bullet injury was found in precarious condition in Narasinghpur West Forest Range under Athagarh Forest Division. Locals heard the jumbo wailing over the last two days and alerted the Forest officials.
When the forest personnel approached the elephant to tranquilise it, the latter ran away into the jungle. The team camped at Satkosia wildlife sanctuary and finally on Thursday, they managed to tranquilise the injured elephant.
As the tusker fell unconscious, the wildlife experts and veterinarians from Narsinghpur carried out medical check-up. Total five bullet wounds near left ear, leg, trunk and body of the elephant, reports stated.
The treatment of the jumbo has begun under the supervision of veterinarians, Athagarh DFO, Sudarshan Gopinath Jadav said.
