Cuttack: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) B K Sharma has termed the operation against Maoists in Pakhnaguda reserve forest in Malkangiri district as ‘very successful’.
“I will certainly term this operation as very successful since divisional commander Rakesh Sodi was slain in this operation,” said DGP Sharma briefing newsmen here on the exchange of fire between Maoists and police Tuesday night in the Pakhnaguda reserve forest under Mudulipada police limits in Malkangiri district.
The DGP informed that while dreaded Maoist Sodi, a native of Sukma in Chhattisgarh and divisional commander of the military platoon of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Committee (AOBSZC) of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) was killed in the exchange of fire, a DVF jawan identified as Jayaram Kabasi was martyred in the operation.
Another DVF jawan Rama Durua was injured in the action and has been airlifted to Visakhapatnam for better treatment after being provided with first aid at the Malkangiri hospital, he added.
The DGP further said, “An AK47 rifle, a 303 rifle, ammunition and articles used by Maoists have been recovered from slain Sodi’s person. He was carrying prize money of Rs 8 lakh on his head. We have evidence of his direct involvement in several cases of heinous crimes and incidents of Maoist violence in different parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha for the last ten years.”
Giving details of the anti-Naxalite operation, Sharma said: “The operation was launched yesterday night based on intelligence inputs and has been intensified after the exchange of fire. The exchange of fire took place at 6.30 AM today at Dabuguda in Pakhnaguda reserve forest. The operation was led by Malkangiri S P Rishikesh Khillari.”
The DGP said more causalities from the Maoist side cannot be ruled out basing on blood stains found on the spot and the recovery of arms other articles from there.
“We desire to take an aggressive posture against the Maoists. For taking an aggressive posture, intelligence inputs are vital .We will activate the intelligence machinery and basing on the inputs we will take speedy action,” Sharma stated informing on his future plans.
