Eminent Odia Singer, Music Director Rakhal Mohanty Passes Away

Bhubaneswar: Eminent Odia singer and music director Rakhal Chandra Mohanty breathed his last at his residence in Badambadi area of Cuttack on Sunday. He was 88 and suffering from various age related ailments since long.

Mohanty had started his career as a music teacher and later joined the All India Radio in 1974 as music composer. He had been the vocalist for Odissi dancers like Sanjukta Panigrahi, Sonal Mansingh and Madhavi Mudgal.

He has reportedly worked for five Odia films but all his songs earned him a good name. He has been awarded with the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award, Nitai Palit Award and Sangeet Sudhakar Balakrishna Das Memorial Award for his lifetime contribution to Odia film and music.
