Bhubaneswar: Many eminent Odia personalities while participating at the Mahavishuva Sankranti Milan–2022 in New Delhi on Saturday pledged to contribute their knowledge to the development of the State.
The Mahavishuva Sankranti Milan–2022, organised by Pravasi Odia Vikas Samiti (POVS) to mark Odia New Year, was held at SSS-II Seminar Hall on JNU campus with the theme ‘Non-Resident Odias Representation In Various Forums: Challenges & Prospects.’
The event was attended by many dignitaries including Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of India Meteorological Department; Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges at the University of Delhi; Dr. Dinabandu Sahoo, Director, Himalayan Studies, Delhi University; Surya Narayan Mishra, Director, Institute of Company Secretaries of India; Satyabhusan Dash, BPCL Chair Professor in Customer Care and Chairman CCME, IIM Lucknow; and Manoj Kumar Jena, Associate Professor at the Center for the Study of Social Systems, School of Social Sciences, JNU.

Speaking on the occasion, the IMD DG said, “The People of Odisha are working outside Odisha in different spheres. As a scientist, I was involved in and developed the Early warning system for cyclones, which is a success story. Odias are doing very well. After retirement, I will actively participate in developing the scientific temper to be ignited in young Odias through poems.”
Dr. Pani said, “The education in Odisha is outstanding. On the basis of that education, the self-made people who have made their position are there. People have language issues. But they have intelligence. The people should be linked with their roots. The tree without roots will dry and only use for fire. So connect with root. The research atmosphere needs to be revamped in Odisha. Then innovation will help to grow.”
Dr. Sahoo said, “We individually excelled, contributing a lot. Need to support the people of Odisha who are coming outside or in Odisha. This will help to grow the polymerase chain. The next generation will also help other Odias. We help Odias and I personally give two months’ time in Odisha each year.”
Dr. Manoj said, “Odisha Education is need to be revamped. Online and offline education have different spheres. Online, the child is interacting with machines and in the classroom with humans. So the humanness will be in the child if he goes to class.”
Prof Das said, “POVS wants a Multiple Disciplinary Education Research University. (MERU) for holistic Research. It would be great as all the facilities to have a MERU in Puri which is a knowledge centre throughout the ages. The tourism should be branded for each tourist point and ancillary development shall be made. We have given many suggestions to the Government and private parties.”
POVS President Surya Narayan Mishra said, “The POVS is connecting Odias throughout the Globe. It takes time, we play the role of catalyst but individuals have to perform. The network and suggestions built by us will give effect to the matter while all come along for the cause of the state.”
“POVS is going to provide an online platform for connecting to the root, where we come from and where we work -ଜନ୍ମଭୂମି କର୍ମଭୂମି.”
“We have to keep our identity intact by using our language, culture, tradition. The Odisha is an idea for all of us where ever we stay. The idea is Prabhu Jagannath, Spirituality, serene beauty, food, cuisine, etc. All shall cherish it,” he added.
The Mahavishuva Sankranti Milan–2022 was again celebrated with great enthusiasm at the auditorium of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Delhi on Sunday.
The function was inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan. He presented a wealth of information, including the story of the indomitable courage of the Paikas and their commander Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar Mohapatra during the Paika Rebellion in Odisha.
Talking about the heroism of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, he also praised the POVS for organising such an event.
As Guest of Honour, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Bisweshwar Tudu expressed his views on the use of Odia language, clothing, food, culture, and tradition by the people of Odisha in their daily lives.
Chief Speaker, Kashmiri Lal, National Organising Secretary of Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, said that the development of Odisha is the development of the nation. He shed light on how an Odia youth from Rayagada created successful entrepreneurship through OYO.
The Odia people need to convey their old energy to re-establish India’s business power all over the world. It is imperative that the people of Odisha take the initiative to make the country self-sufficient by implementing new entrepreneurship.
In his speech, POVS President said that the Odia New Year program would help Odias to stay connected with the ideology of Odisha, preserve their identity in the world court, and make the next generation proud as Odias.
Rajesh Sharma hosted the event and introduced the guests and briefed them on the role of POVS in society. General Secretary Bijaya Nabami read out the annual report and Treasurer Susanta Kumar Mohapatra proposed the vote of thanks.
