Bhubaneswar: The accountant of an engineering college was arrested on charges of swindling Rs 97 lakh belonging to the institution. The accountant identified as Payal Mohapatra was working with a reputed private engineering college in the Capital City.
A native of 42 Mouza in Cuttack, Moahapatra had a boyfriend to whose account the entire amount was transferred in different phases. Basing on a complaint filed by the college authorities, Tamando police conducted an investigation and identified the accused.
Mohapatra was studying in the same college, said sources. She misappropriated the fees of students and sent it to her boyfriend through an UPI. In course of the investigation, she confessed to having embezzled the funds, the police said.
