Sambalpur: Burla police here on Wednesday registered an FIR in connection with the death of an engineering graduate under suspicious circumstances by drowning in Hirakud Dam’s power channel, last night.
The deceased, Chinmayee Priyadarshini Sahoo was a native of Rampur in Kalahandi district and had graduated in BTech (IT). She had come to her alma mater, Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, to attend the convocation.
Sahoo’s mother alleged that she had last spoken to her around 9 pm and that her voice was sounding unnatural and painful. Based on a complaint filed by the woman, Burla police have registered a case under Sections 302 (murder), and 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence).
The male friend of Sahoo, a native of Bhubaneswar, who had reportedly accompanied her to the power channel has been detained. Sahoo was staying in Bhubaneswar and was preparing for competitive exams, reports added.
