Bhubaneswar: Uttam Kumar Sarangi, a B.Tech first-year student of a private college in Bhubaneswar, was reportedly kidnapped after he attended his friend’s birthday party here on Monday night. The victim is a resident of Rourkela.
As per reports, Uttam was returning to his hostel along with his friends after attending a birthday party here around 9.30 pm. Bike-borne miscreants intercepted them on the way and forcefully took Uttam with them. Later, they took him to an isolated place near a crematorium in Jatni.
On learning about the incident, Khandagiri police launched a search operation and rescued Uttam at around 12.30 am. The cops also arrested Nitish Kumar, a B.Tech second-year student, in this connection.
“When I was returning to the hostel, the bike-borne miscreants stopped me and inquired about my hostel timing. Subsequently, they offered to drop me near my hostel. As I denied it, they thrashed me and forcibly took me with them. The police rescued me from near a cremation ground in Jatni,” said Uttam.
