Bhubaneswar: A three-member committee formed by the Director, Capital Hospital and the police are probing into the alleged newborn swapping case in the City’s premier hospital.
“If the allegation is true it’s a serious matter. From my preliminary enquiry from the doctor, nurse and others it has been revealed that the complainant’s wife had delivered a girl child but while informing there was a slip. Considering it as a serious matter I have formed a three-member team comprising of the Hospital Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent and HOD Gynecology to enquire into the matter,” informed Dr Laxmidhar Sahu, Director, Capital Hospital.
The police is also probing the matter, Dr Sahu added.
“On the basis of the findings of both the police and the three-member committee we will try to convince the complainant and if he doesn’t agree we will leave it to the police and as per their rules they will if required get a DNA test done to ascertain who are the parents of the child,” explained Dr Sahu.
One Pranakrushna Biswal had admitted his wife to the Capital Hospital for delivery. Biswal alleged that around 10: 30 PM on Monday the nurse had told his mother-in-law while handing over the newborn that it was a boy but on removing the cloth wrap to take a picture of the newborn he found it to be a girl.
“All my relatives were here, the nurse while handing over the baby to my mother-in-law told her that it was a boy but when I lifted the cloth wrap to take a photo I found it to be a girl. I am sure it is a case of baby-swapping. Let there be a DNA test to find out the truth,” complained Biswal.
Meanwhile, Biswal has also lodged a complaint at the Capital Police Station in this connection alleging newborn swapping at Capital Hospital.
