Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Bhubaneswar has arrested one Bijay Bharadwaj from Etah, Uttar Pradesh on charges of fraud. Bharadwaj is an accused in the case filed by one Pramod Kumar Rout from Joda who was allegedly duped of Rs 2.35 crore
According to the complaint, during November, 2019 to February, 2021, Rout had transferred around Rs.2.35 crore in instalments to a person who identified himself as a top official in the Finance Ministry. Rout was said that his insurance policy was selected under “Pradhan Mantri Rahat Kosh Yojona” for a cash award of Rs 3 crore.
“The accused is one of the members of the gang which is involved in many such cases in various States. Out of the aforementioned amount of Rs 2.35 crore an amount of about Rs 79 lakh has been remitted to the account of Bharadwaj who has misappropriated the same,” an EOW official said.
Bharadwaj was booked under Sections 419/420/465/467/468/471/170/120-B of the IPC and Section 66 of the IT Act.”Earlier, one accused Himanshu Bhandari has been arrested in this case. Further investigation is on and efforts are continuing to nab other members of the gang,” the EOW official further said.
