Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch which is investigating the fake loan apps case, has written to Google Inc seeking more information on these fraudulent platforms. Earlier, the EOW had written to Google apprising the latter about illegal loan Apps – KOKO Loan and JOJO Loan.
The EOW had sought vital information to probe the case. “Further, during course of investigation it was noticed that there are plethora of such illegal Loan Apps available online,” a senior official of the EOW stated.
“These APPs have been illegally providing short term loans at very high interest rates. These APPs are not authorized by RBI to do so. Besides these loan APPs are using illegal
method of harassirtg, threatening, blackmailing, using extremely filthy language in order to extort money from victim loanees, Besides they also harass their friends/ relatives as these loan APPs gets access to the entire contact list of loanee/victim,” the official said.
The police in other states in India are also investigating such cases. lt is also reported that many people have committed suicide because of illegal, humiliating and torturous activities by these Loan APP companies. For public interest and information the EOW has shared the list of these apps and urged people not to download these fraudulent platforms on their cellphones.
