Cuttack: On March 21, 2018, a heinous crime took place in Erasama block of Jagatsinghpur district. It was a gruesome rape and murder of a minor girl. IIC Erasama, Bichitrananda Sethi registered the case under multiple Sections of the IPC and POCSO Act and started investigation.
He utilised services of dog squad and collected material evidence through forensic team. He also conducted inquest over the body and sent it to SCB Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
The accused Kalia Mana alias Laba was arrested and forwarded to court on March 23, 2018. The case was charge sheeted on May 21, 2018 under charges of rape, murder and offence under POCSO Act.
Siba Prasad Majhi, Special Public Prosecutor, Jagatsinghpur fought the case before Additional District Judge, Jagatsinghpur. The case ended with conviction of the accused Kalia Mana who was sentenced to death on September 10, 2019.
To recognise the good investigation work of the investigating officer and Special PP, DG Police BK Sharma felicitated Sethi and Majhi during a special function organised at the Crime Branch headquarters here on Wednesday.
Sharma appreciated the effort of Sethi and Majhi and advised them continue such zeal, spirit and sincerity in future days and bring more laurels for Odisha.
The meeting was presided over by Additional DGP Crime, Sanotsh Upadhaya. DIG, Crime Branch Amitendranath Sinha, DIG Central Rnage, Ashish Singh, Jagatsinghpur SP, R Prakash and SP Crime, SS Mishra were present on the occasion.
