Bhubaneswar: The Emergency Response Support Centre (ERSS) team played a vital role during the cyclone “Dana” in the state. In the cyclone-affected districts, vehicles operated by the State Emergency Service Coordination Centre (SERC) along with the local police were engaged in evacuating many people to cyclone shelters and also helped in transporting people back to their homes after the cyclone.
People from various districts across the state were calling the Emergency Response Support Centre (ERSS) office to inform them about their problems. The calls were for assistance such as uprooted trees falling on their houses, electric poles getting uprooted, people not going to shelters, fighting among people in shelters, ambulance assistance to patients, police assistance, fire services, road blockage due to uprooted trees.
The ERSS authorities were also busy providing 24-hour services. They would immediately inform the District Emergency Relief Officer or the local police station about the incident and direct them to take action.
On the instructions of the Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, and under the direct supervision of the Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters), Dayal Gangwar, the operation to combat “Dana” and rescue the helpless was carried out. After the cyclone, transporting people to their homes was also carried out.
It is worth mentioning that from the beginning of the cyclone’s impact till midnight of the 26th, a total of 3005 phone calls were received by the ERSS office, out of which, the maximum calls came from Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts.
