Estranged Love Birds Tie Nuptial Knot In Choudwar Circle Jail

Cuttack: Despite landing in jail for having trespassed into the forbidden land of love, the long-cherished dream eventually gets realized within the four colossal walls of prison.

Such a wedding was solemnized today at Choudwar Circle Jail in the district in which the groom was none other than an under trial prisoner (UTP) and the bride was his complainant herself.

Not only this, the bride was having a 3-month-old child on her lap and family members from both parties were at the waiting lounge on the prison premises.

Intrigued at such a sight, the curious visitors of other prisoners kept on enquiring the bride about the matter and she was heard saying merrily that she was going to marry and move on to her in-laws’ house today.
The case revolves round the incident that had taken place at Kirikia village of Gobara panchayat under Gurudijhatia police limits in the district here.

When the complainant girl, Manju Chadar, was in Class IX, she developed a relation with the accused, Rajesh Singh, of nearby Bhurungabhadi village over mobile phone.

Even though Manju is Hindu and Rajesh is from the Christian community, love knows not any barriers of caste, creed or religion. Thus, their relationship grew more intimate and the girl inadvertently got conceived. She insisted on marrying her lover boy, but he remained elusive. The aggrieved family members of Manju had even raised the matter in the village meeting, but to no avail. Consequently, they lodged a police complaint and accused Rajesh was arrested as well as court forwarded. As the victim was a minor girl, the trial is underway in the POCSO court.

Meanwhile, Manju has turned major and repentant Rajesh made up his mind to marry her. The matter was brought to the notice of the prison authorities.

Since the court permitted the marriage, the Choudwar Circle Jail premises today witnessed the marriage in presence of the authorities and family members from both the sides making the maxim, “It’s all well that ends well” come true.

In her reactions, Manju Chadar said, “As he had betrayed earlier, we had filed a case against him in the Gurudijhatia police station. Now we availed the court’s order and got married here inside the Choudwar Jail. I’m extremely happy today.”

“Uddhar Foundation made my marriage possible. He (her husband) is in jail for the last three months and twenty-five days. I will move into his home today and he will remain in jail. I’ll wait for his release from jail. I would pray God for my husband’s release from jail soon so that we could lead a happy married life. My husband got elated at meeting our child for the first time,” she beamed.

Prior to the marriage was solemnized, Prisons DIG Kulamani Behera had informed media, “Today’s wedding is being arranged under the direction of Hon’ble ADJ POCSO Court. After the court’s direction, we had moved the DG, Prisons for necessary permission. As per the permission of the DG, Prisons, today’s marriage is going to be held here. Accused Rajesh Singh, booked under Section POCSO 376, is in jail since 12.11.2020. He is going to wed a victim girl. He will continue to remain in jail till the further decision of the court.”
